Nitrogen separation membrane is a thin film made of polymer or inorganic materials, with a microporous structure. It is an adsorption process. When gas enters the nitrogen separation membrane, gas molecules interact with the membrane surface, and some of them are adsorbed on the membrane surface. This process is reversible, and the adsorbed gas molecules can re-enter the gas phase.

Next is the infiltration process. Gas molecules adsorbed on the membrane surface will penetrate through the micropores of the membrane to the other side. Due to the relatively small size of nitrogen molecules, they can easily pass through micropores, while other larger gas molecules are blocked on the membrane surface. This selective permeation allows nitrogen to be effectively separated.
